I went to a Vancouver VW dealership for the VW Homecoming week (free 57 item inspection designed to get you in the door. Free hors d'ouevres). I picked up the brochure for the EV and the Transporter. It would appear that in Canada, the stock motor in the '97 Transporter is a 2.5 litre 5 cylinder Turbo Diesel. Something tells me that Andy isn't in Canada.

John, if you bought one of these transporters we could call you Turbo Diesel John.
