manuals RULE, my uncle has an 85 gl auto with a conpletely new tranny, but the darned thing won't accelerate worth a lick.

when the 1.9 was still in my van, an 84 stick, i could beat him in any arena, including braking(even when he downshifted into low to get compression braking)

the thing is though, that all tranny's are different. even if the engine is the same, the transmission might not be adjusted correctly, which could either get you excellent off the line acceleration, or a 15min. crawl to 55mph(speed limit in MD which I obey at ALL times).

a question: did vw make 5-speed stick's for vanagons?
