It might be noted that Richard has replaced the idle stabilizer recently
purchased new from me.

Richard -
You might check to see if the throttle switches are functioning both
mechanically and electrically.  Located on the throttle body, these help
tell the ECU when to idle and when to go to full enrichment at full
throttle.  Some later 85's, this was incorporrated as a single switch
with dual contacts.  83.5 thru Early 85 had the two separate switches.

When not properly adjusted on their arms, the ECU can receive false
signals.  This was the case on my 84 Westy.  Of course, check to make
sure your harness connections are secure, clean and that there's
continuity from the switches/airbox/aux air valve, etc., is making it to
the ECU connector.  There is a chance the ECU is the problem, but only a
slim one at best in my experience.  But then again I could be wrong.
