With all the conversation about speed & accel^h^h^h^h^h changing positions I'm currious about what other people think constitutes abuse of a bus. Durnik, '90 GL 150,000 miles, does a little over 3000 miles/month here in NJ. Half of that on the Parkway. I originally tried to keep my speeds around 60 mph. Now I'm as likely to be passing on the left as being passed.

Do other people typically run around at 4000 rpm? If so, have any of you gotten 200,000 plus miles on your engine? Did VW design the engine with the assumption that even the high green is normal operating or should I stop putting pennies in a jar for a new engine & start saving greenbacks? Is there anyone on the list that has successfully put in a 5speed? I'd sure like to drop a 1000 rpm off of my highway speed.

BTW: Durnik normally accelerates out of a toll booth such that he reaches 60-65 within 2 tenths of a mile. 4000 rpm=>70mph. And he has been lively enough to chirp his tires on dry payment when shifting into 2nd. Neat but I have try to avoid such hard shifts unless neccesary when pulling out into traffic.
