<< This does not sound like it could happen to a well maintained vehical. Many of us (most) also are very alert to weird sounds or any change in feel or operation of our vans. How could you miss what must of been VERY loud clanking of the entire front drive and VC unit getting loose and falling off onto the road. Have you gone back to look for it? Again how do you know you were going 65 if someone had already stolen the front unit, since the speedo drive goes to the front drive unit?

I am not trying to flame you or be mean but postings like this may make many on the list reluctant to assist you. >> This vehicle ran great all that day NO STRANGE NOISES i'm very up on the vehicle has new tranny , brakes cv joints rotors ,bushings , boots , tires , exhaust, and the dang heads all done within last 18k or year and a half , took second at 2 VW shows , had it all inspected at 125k My friend was following me to work on RT 8 south approaching Waterbury CT HE SAW IT FALL OFF !! he saw the boots and mounts and bolts fall of , the diff stayed attached to the rearend also the right cv separated when we got to work it made it's first noise as i turned into the parking lot I told him It made a noise and he told me he saw something fall off about 2 miles ago I'm very aware of all the sounds and leaks and problems of owning a syncro

the differential totally separated from it's mounts the mounts are what fell off they must have totally disentegrated , nut , bolts everything gone!! there was no noise except in right turns the mechanic keeps calling it the differential you call it the CV also the speedo worked the whole time my question is : can I get VW to help with the repairs as this should never!! happen and I could have been killed ????
