If the axles will not come out of the CV joint once you remove the C-clip _DO NOT HAMMER _ on the axle ends to force them out! You will mushroom the ends ever so slightly. Use a gear puller. If they are stuck bad have them pressed out. About 15% of the ones I have worked on were stubborn.
