Subject: Mexican VW Van Trannys
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

You know yesterday I was telling my friends at school, who are also VW fanatics, about the Brazilian VW vans I had seen on the net and the Mexican ones that I had heard about when I got an epiphany. Instead of trying to import the whole van, why not try to get a hold of a Mexican Van transmission. The hardest thing about doing the aircooled to watercooled conversion is getting the transmission adapter plate and then living with the fact that your gear ratios are off. But these Mexican Vans are set up for using the watercooled golf and jetta motors right? So the tranny would fit right in a aircooled van and be the right gearing for the engine and save a lot of hassle in the conversion process. Now I pose the question to the list: how could we get our hands on one of these trannys? Would there be any problem with bringing them into the country? Does the Mexican Van have a Bentley Manual that could also be an aid in installing the tranny and using it as a guide for running cooling lines etc? You see this has possibilities. Let me know if anyone has any ideas on this subject. We could all be riding around with more power and real heat if this thing works out. Ken Wilford John 3:16
