I'm amazed and thankful for the responses to my post just the other
day.Thanks everybody!

Now I gotta elaborate a bit on what my mechanic found back when I decided
to do something about the leaks I was finding under the bus..

1) they did a pressure check and assured me that the leak was at the heads.
Just this morning I looked under the bus (which I finally drove for the
first time in two weeks) and one can see a "line" of little drips that
parallel the head.:(.This mechanic has done the work on Vanagons before and
is not really jumping for joy at the prospect of the job. So I guess that
they are on the level with me.

2) As far as the tapping goes..I guess I AM due for an oil change but my
levels are fine; the oil may be a bit thin. But the sound does NOT go away,
like my Fox's did. (It had the same sound for about 1 minute and then the
oil worked it's way around and all was fine)

3) I like the idea of just a quick fix using a sealant 'cuz the cash for an
engine ain't there right now! A Subaru engine?? I kinda like that idea..

Again; thanks to all those who replied! I guess I'll keep her. Even if I
gotta ride my bike all winter ( I live in Michigan ) or get another Fox or
Rabbit to get me thru this mess!
