Ken,

Yeah, I like discussing this too, I feel that we can alliviate this probem by active manangent which enables the engine seals to do their job.

My suggestion on the aluminum spacer is a starting point aimed at saving "aluminum" heads, not allivation of the galvinic corrosion you spoke of. I feel that as long as the spacer is of the same galvinic charge as the head, you haven't created a more corrosive enviroment. The spacer just allows the head to be machined enough to remove the flaws and then regain the lost distance.

I feel this is a pretty straight forward fix, and has be done on other aluminum head engines, my Datsun 240, had a iron block with the corrosion and every head job I had to resurface .010 off. Felpro offered a spacer to correct the high compresion problems, some guys just double headgasketed the thing. Which would not be feasable since the VW head sealing program is in three seals, thus the "spacer solution may be a good fix.

Two metals like aluminum and steel act like the zinc and >lead in a battery. All you need is an electrolyte (like antifreeze) and you >have a battery which would cause crazy corrosion. We learned about this in >aircraft maintenance school since planes use aluminum extensively. >I like talking out this problem. Maybe by brainstorming we can find a >solution.

no relation that I know of, I'm from Miami Fl, and have "Keller's" their and Northeast GA and Alabama.

Respectfully, Mark Keller 91" Carat WE "Lazarus"
