Hi Marna & Mike,

Welcome to the list!

I'm not one of the list members with any technical info to speak of. But thot you might be interested in hearing that, lacking confidence in any VW mechanics i knew of here in Sacramento, i took my '87 Westi to Kyle Wade at Volks Cafe in Santa Cruz, from whom i had seen posts here on the list. He had offered helpful suggestions to questions from a few listees, and also offered reasonable prices on parts. I contacted him ahead of time, and he quoted me very competitive prices on the parts i needed then, and labor perhaps 1/2-2/3 of what had been quoted by the local VW dealer [which would also have charged 2-3x for the parts]. The work was performed as agreed, and there were none of the little [or big] unanticipated costs being tacked on for this or that, that i have come to expect over the years.

I'd rather have a mechanic a lot closer to home, and Kyle even gave me a lead on someone here [which i haven't yet fully pursued]. But if i don't find someone here, and my van is driveable, i wouldn't hesitate to go back to the Volks Cafe.

So, if you can't solve the problem yourself, or need parts, you might want to give Kyle a call. [Kyle Wade (408) 426-1431 OR (408) 429-9424]

Good luck,

Gail
