Subject: gas consumption
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

My '81 Westie has a new engine from AVP, with about 1000 miles on it. I put on new injectors and spark plugs when I installed the engine. It is an automatic. I have the Yokohama Y370 tires inflated correctly. Nevertheless, I am only getting a little over 11 MPG. I do live at about 5000' of elevation, and my miles are pretty much all highway miles, since I live 8 miles out of a very small town. The van seems to be running great.

What should I check to reduce my gas consumption? Could the altitude make that much difference? I know it has a lot more power in Tucson, which is about 2500'. What else should I look at? We are leaving the day after Christmas on a 5000 mile trip, and a few extra miles per gallon would be really welcome.

Thanks, Bill (SE Arizona) (Bill@freeholder.com) ---------------------------------------------------------- You don't get peaches from an apple tree. HTTP://www.freeholder.com
