these water heaters you're describing are what we home brewers call "immersion coolers". Copper coil hooked up to a cold water tap - dropped in the cooker about 15 minutes before end of boil to sterilize it. I can cool 6 gals of boiling liquid to 70F in 10-15 minutes with one of these. unfortunately my coil is the size of a paint can - designed to fit into a big pot. if you're making one of these for yourself, make sure you get the "soft" copper. the other stuff is a bitch to coil, as i found out after i came home with 25 ft of it!

oh and those Bentley EV manuals look pretty nice. But I notice that a lot of the material is just what was in the early Factory Manuals they were required to put out. pictures are the same, much of the text description is the same except typeset instead of typewritten. They did add a maintenance section to the beginning which is good. But if you have the old set already the new Bentley version may not be worth it. I thought that the Vanagon manual was much better.

anyone know what a VAG 1551 Scan Tool is, or any idea what it costs? One sorta needs it if you want to read/reset/initialize the Engine Control Module, trouble diagnostic codes, etc. Also I haven't figured out where the connector is for it on the '95 - on the '97 its under a plate on the dash apparently but on the '95 they just show an area without really identifying the general location!
