I would agree with ken here, don't get a used rear heater core. I too had my rear heater core replaced free of charge by VWoA, on a 90k+ 2nd owner van. Call VW of America at (800) 822-8987 and tell them your problem. The phone call is free so its worth a shot. By the way, a week after having the core replaced, the valve started leaking and they would not replace/fix this. If you can see some white crust on the core then that is likely the culprit. If the valve is leaking you should be able to see the leak.
