In a message dated 98-03-01 00:56:56 EST, sxs@concentric.net writes: << I did the unthinkable...and let the cargo door slide shut with my keys inside and all locks down...the auto lock quickly locked it and now what do i do? any advice/tricks anything? steve 90 syncro westy >> hmmm...where's your '90 syncro westy parked at??? ;<) the easiest way to break into a vanagon, in instances like this, if you dont have a spare key, or the key code (if you purchased the van new, or know the dealer it was sold at, they may be able to get you the key code by the VIN) A) break one of the front vent windows...they're easy to replace, and i have a ton of them... ;<) B) pry out those little plastic thingies the side sliding windows slide on in the tracks, otherwise known as the guides...the ones at the bottom of the window at the front, and the back, that guide the window in the track. by doing this, you let the sliding window drop a little lower on the track, keeping it from being able to be latched by that push down latch on the inside. once removing these little black plastic guides carefully with a small screwdriver, you should just be able to slide the window open from the outside...
