Subject: '87 gets smogged easily 2nd time -- belated report and thanks

Hello, all---

i received many helpful responses [as usual] to my plea for help when i failed CA smog about 3 wks ago. Replied individually to those who wrote the first day, but may have overlooked thanking some of those who responded over the next few days.

To be brief [for once], i wound up getting a tune-up/120k service w/computer/smog diagnostics, directing the mechanic [i think i've finally found one who'll work out] to pay particular attention to all the areas recommended in your responses. Replaced: Bosch WR7DTC [?] plugs, distrib. cap, rotor, and oil, air & fuel filters; but he didn't find it necessary to replace the O2 sensor this time. Also, just for insurance, i tried the _Fuelon_ additive [WalMart, ~$20] one listee recommended.

So, once again, the list came thru! Help from too many listees to mention [i was trying to make space on my hard drive with SpaceWizard, and wiped out a whole bunch of msgs i was saving :-(, including some i hadn't responded to yet]. I do want to acknowledge both Ron Salmon [Bus Depot] and Jim Sherwood [Old Volks Home]. I had ordered a muffler from Ron quite awhile ago but held off having him ship it, and he was most helpful in packing that up along with some other items i needed ASAP, and i had them 3 days later. The mechanic's labor rate is reasonable for this area, but he seemed sincerely amazed at the prices i told him i had paid for parts, or could get them for, on the list.

Jim was helpful in another way, patiently answering questions by email and explaining even more by phone, even suggesting that the small tune-up parts [e.g. plugs, etc] i needed immediately could probably be obtained *locally* reasonably enough, if i needed them right away.

So, a belated thanks to all for being there.

and welcome back! to the sun over mid/northern CA! and best wishes to those who are still soggy...
