Hi volks,

Good to be back. All this talk about GL's and Wolfys prompts me to put my $0.02 in. I'm not quite sure what distinguishes a GL model from an L model, except maybe for the armrests, but I know at least for the '84 model year, the distinction between a GL and a Wolfsburg Edition is quite marked. As I was looking at buses to purchase, I checked out two '84s- the first being the Wolfy, the next being the GL I own presently.

The main distinction, of course, was in the interior. The Wolfy had far more plush cloth seating- velour, if memory serves. Also, there were tons of accessories back there, as well as the "jail cage" mine doesn't have. Mechanically, the only difference was power steering, to my knowledge.

I saw an '86 or '87 Vanagon L parked, and although I didn't look in it, of course, it did look rather Spartan- like an '80, except with the slant eyes, lower grille, and intestines in the back. It even had the '71 style wheels.

Hope this helps...
