I visited Michael near by and took a look at his TDI conversion. Something about his special engine mount: You may know the interfering problem with the Turbo mills and the Diesel engine mounting. This is on every 4-inline engines out of Golf/Jetta/Passat/Audi gas or Diesel. The turbo charger is mounted in the middle of the exhaust manifold, just at that place where the Vanagon engine mount should be. The customised support just runs below the turbo and keeps this space open. Additionally, Michaels engine support does have a bracket for the Vanagon Turbo Diesel muffler, and all fits together perfectly. If you do have the Vanagon Turbo Diesel exhaust manifold, you don't need the customised engine support. But, if you do have this bracket, all 4-inlines with turbo will fit without modifications to the turbo charger and its mountings. Helmut '80 Camper |
