The latest little quirk of my '91 Vanagon is as follows: When turning the key to start the engine, maybe one out of 10-15 times, the engine will crank about twice as long as normal before it starts. My mechanic says that he found that the voltage in the Hall sending unit drops to about .2 volts when this is happening but hasn't figured out why yet. Anyone else experienced this? Did you replace just the Hall sending unit? The distributer? The control unit computer (gulp!!!)? Battery is good. Starter is new. 140,000 miles. John Nyquist nyquist@acsu.buffalo.edu |
