I never thought much about tire size till now. I have been putting 185/75R14 tires on my '85 GL and not thinking much about it. VW says the correct tire size is 185r14. The 185r14 is the European size. The 185/75R14's are slightly shorter, that is, they have a smaller diameter and can carry less weight. I put Goodyear Weatherhandlers on my GL last year at the recommendation of various "others" ( good in snow tires).. I just heard back from a Goodyear rep, and he recommends not putting them on only because the tire does not meet the load carrying requirements of the vehicle manufacturer. Has anyone put Goodyear tires on their Vanagon? Am I driving in an unsafe driving condition? Any recommendation? Thanks for any input --Bill '85 GL 170,000mi. and going....and going...... |
