It is not necessary to remove the roof, I agree.
However, if you want to eliminate all of the rust without filling the inside
of the camper with it, it is not a bad idea.
FWIW - My canvas was already off. I got it back from the tent repair shop,
and have not gotten around to putting it back up - I was waiting til after I
replaced these seals. I would not have even considered removing the roof if
I had to go through removing the canvas first.
On the front part of the roof: I would recommend removing the fiberglass
part. I cleaned out 1/2 a tree worth of leaves, acorns & twigs that were
underneath it. There was about 1/2 inch of dirt that was caked up under it,
disallowing water drainage, and several families of spiders happily going on
about their daily business.
CONGRATULATIONS ON REACHING YOUR 100 POP-TOP MILESTONE. I APOLOGIZE THAT MY
ATTEMPT AT LEVITY STRUCK A CHORD WRONG WITH YOU. I WAS GOING FOR A GRIN, NOT
TO OFFEND YOUR SENSE OF POP-TOP ETIQUETTE.
HAVE A WONDERFUL WEEK
