Dear Vanagon friends, Would anyone like to know what I paid yesterday to have a clutch, pressure plate, and clutch release (throwout) bearing put in my '93 Eurovan? The total came to $835.75! My mechanic spent 2 days trying to locate a clutch. The first one he found was at a performance VW store and it was $650, just for the clutch. When he finally acquiesed and went to the local VW dealership, it was cheaper by around $100.00 The kicker is, I did not really need a clutch. The release bearing went bad (cost=$54.90) and I told him while he had the engine out to go ahead and replace the clutch and pressure plate also. That's what I used to do back when I worked on my on VWs. I think I should start back doing my own mechanic work. Russell G. '85 GL '93 EV |
