You should be glad you didn't go through what *I* did when my clutch bearing went. My mechanic couldn't get the transmission apart from the engine. It took him 3-4 days and lots of phone calls to VW dealerships where the mechanics were all on vacation of course...then a few hours smashing rocks in his yard and fantasies of torching his garage with the EV inside : ). Lots of help and suggestions from folks on the list...He finally found the last hidden bolt using a dental mirror and persistence. Don't try to do this withut a manual is my advice. It ended up costing me $1000.00 but that's because my mechanic has been working on all our vehicles for about 11 years now and is a wonderful soul. Labor alone should have been half that at least.
