Hi, I have an 85 Vanagon. I just rebuilt the Gearshift Lever Bearing ... but I do not have a manual ... yet ... the upper end of the Lower Ball half sticks up above the Gearshift lever bearing housing, and an upper spring is supposed to fit over it and below the bushing ... my questions are thus... there are little clips on the upper end of the Lower Ball half... is the spring supposed to fully fit over these? It appears as if the spring will eventually break these small appendages... am I being too delicate? Should I just attach the bushing first and then let it compress the spring to the level necessary when I adjust the lever? Thanks for the advice in advance .... Mike Wohlgemuth |
