I am one of those unfortunate victims of VW's worst upholstery material mistakes in modern history - the dreaded corduroy used in various models in 1985-87. Recovering the bench seat with some other upholstery fabric was easy, requiring little sewing and just a reliable staple gun. The front driver and passenger seats were another story. When it became apparent I couldn't do it myself, I started searching for alternatives.
I found a company that makes a custom-fitted seat cover, made out of the same fabric that they make Docker's pants out of. They come in a variety of colors, and even came with covers for the armrests and headrest, and the VW logo silk-screened. Best of all, including shipping, the pair only cost me $110 ! The covers are well made, and are an exact fit. They come in the following colors: Dark grey, tan, dark blue, toupe, light grey, charcoal, maroon, black, white, red, and dark brown. I got the dark brown ones and they look great. The name of the place I ordered them from is: Jeanseat International Seat Cover Company, located in Hollywood, Florida, and their toll-free order line is (800) 881-0509 |
