I've heard it said several times that the conversion to the Rabbit engine is fairly simple if one has a diesel vanagon, and virtually impossible otherwise. I'm wondering about how hard it is if one has a diesel donor and a gas model as the transplant recipient. Is the diesel body substantially different in the engine compartment area? Could someone please explain the problem? I'd love to put my efforts into finding a dead diesel vanagon so that I could convert my gas westy somewhere down the line.
