Don -- Let me make sure I understand. You had an air cooled '80 -- '83 1/2 vanagon as the recipient; you had a water-cooled diesel vanagon as a donor, also a rabbit gti. Am I right? Some details that would be helpful: What year of air-cooled vanagon were you starting with? Apparently some if not all vanagons come with holes drilled for the diesel engine mounts... since I haven't seen where those holes are I want to make sure that I either have them drilled in my ('81, made in late '80), or that there is at least something solid to drill them into. I'll look in my Bentley today and see if I can figure this out for myself... What year of GTI were you using and what engine did it have? I have the impression that there were a number of gti engines and I don't know much about that car... And finally, the clincher -- how do you like the results? Is it substantially stronger?
