Subject: Re: Windshield Replacement?

Hello all:

I am needing to replace the windshield in my '90 Westie. I have checked about 10 local glass shops and got parts prices from my VW dealer.

Does anyone have experience replacing them and could give me a few tips? What brand of glass or does it matter? Does the gasket need to be replaced? How much should this cost me?

Is this something a computer technician can figure out?

Thanks in advance for all of the great responses!

Dave, I'm replacing my second windshield (rock hit center of windshield hard) this Friday at a local glass shop for $200--tinted--installed. I don't know about the seal yet, but the last time it was replaced with PPG glass and the seal was not replaced--no leaks either.
