>The shifter on my syncro squeaks when going in and and out of reverse. Last >week I removed the nylon ball assembly in the shifter and cleaned it the >best I could (I was unable to get it totally apart though) and packed in >some moly grease. The dang thing still squeaks! Anyone else had/solved this >problem? Yes- Get underneath the front end, drop the spare tire and remove the metal box that contains the shifter linkage. What you are hearing is the lowermost part of the shifter contacting the "motion limiter" in the metal box. I've lubed mine several times, and had the squeak reappear. My Bentley manual refers to a nylon strip on this limiter bar. Mine does not have it and looks like it never did. If I can't find the nylon piece, I'll either make one or consider lubing it with paraffin. It is annoying isn't it? Gary |
