I have an '84 Vanagon with the clock in the instrument pod and have access to a pod with the tachometer. The archives says that this should be a straight swap, has anyone actually done this? According to Bentley, the wiring on the 14 pin connecter is different for the pre-85 clock models(90.4) and the 85 and up tach models(90.18). The fuel guage specs are also different. When I plugged the late model cluster in, the tach did not work, the fuel guage showed life, and the water light blinked with the ignition switch in the off position. Anyone have any experience with this, and if so, what wire on an '84 is the tach signal? It's not mentioned in Bentley 90.4. Are there any '84 models with tachometers? Help!!
