Subject: vans FS in San Diego
Comments: To: Vanagon@vanagon.com

The family and I were out and about San Diego today and ran across several Vanagons for sale. The first was at the BMW dealer in Encinitas. An 87 GL in very good shape, very clean with 150k, the dealership was closed, so don't know the asking price. Just down the street is a VW dealer that is <only> a VW dealer, the only one I know of. They also have a very clean and straight 87 GL with only 92k miles, they say the blue book is $7500 and they are asking $7995.

Next we went to Qualcomm Stadium where 20 dealers were having a huge used car sale, over 2000 used cars. Found an 88 GL Wolfsburg, automatic, jump seats, table and weekender bed, 150K, asking $10,995!!! This van was nice, but not that nice. By contrast, there was also a 93 EV with the same price tag. Then we found another 88, same color as the first one but with manual transmission for $10,495. Then out in the back I spotted a Syncro. When I walked up to it a saw a tag in the window that said it had just been traded in. From the VIN I deduced it is an 87 with 150K miles,(Yes, only the year was deduced from the VIN, milage from the odo) had some body and bumper damage, but overall it looked ok. Has the locking differential. I tracked down the dealer that took it in, they said they wouldn't sell it until they found out if they could smog it (Calif. law requires seller to provide Smog Cert). If not, they will wholesale it at auction or by bid at there lot, I left them my phone number and asked them to call when they found out.

If anyone is interested in any of these van, let me know and I'll see what I can find out for you.

Steve and Jo Ann Wacker San Marcos, Ca. 90 Carat 86 Syncro
