Subject: different exhaust Q? studs or bolts?
Comments: To: Vanagon@vanagon.com
Content-type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Hello--

This exhaust thread got me thinking. My relatively new to me 83.5 Westy had a rebuilt water cooled engine that was "installed" by a DPOs "mechanic."

On my bus the exhaust is bolted to the heads with bolts. It would seem to me that the heads would correctly have studs with nuts holding the exhaust in place. My fear is when I have to change the exhaust those bolts won't move or will sheer. (but maybe the studs would as well?)

But anyway, the question is should there be studs coming out of the heads for the exhaust. Or is this bolted configuration OK?

TIA Jeff 83.5 Westy
