Michael, the problem is mouting the PS pump. The only Diesel Vanagon engine (and for that mater the only inline engine) sold in N. America was the 1.6l Jetta/Golf engine in 82 Vanagons (in the US) and 82-84 Vanagons (in Canada). With this particlular block, the right engine mount attaches to the same bolt points that the AC/Alternator/PS pump, mounting hardware does on the US market Golfs and Jettas. As far as we know over here, there is no Vanagon engine mount for an inline engine that will also allow you to mount a PS pump. Because of that, the mount must be custom made. Fourtinately there is plenty of room on the right side of the engine compartment, as many of us are not converting Desel Vanagons which have the battery in the engine compartment.

Is there a chance that you could get a good photo, or even better, a service manual line drawing of the engine mount/PS pump mount in in a European van?
