Hey all, I remember seeing a conversation a while back on either type2 or vanagon about gas taxes, but I don't remember which.

Well, whatever -- in the spirit of Friday, here is some neat info. I found this in the Washington Post from Thursday, March 19, in the Virginia Weekly section. (Incidentally in today's Washington Post, there is a test drive report of the new Beetle).

It's a chart of gasoline taxes by state, provided by the Maryland Dept. of Transportation. The states are listed below, ranked in order from highest gas tax to lowest.

Taxes are listed in cents per gallon.

1) Connecticut: 36.00 2) Rhode Island: 29.00 3) Montana: 27.00 4) Pennsylvania: 25.815 5) Nebraska: 25.50 6) West Virginia: 25.35 7) Idaho: 25.00 8) Utah: 24.50 9) Nevada: 24.00 10) Oregon: 24.00 11) Wisconsin: 23.80 12) Maryland: 23.50 13) Delaware: 23.00 14) Washington: 23.00 15) New York: 22.80 16) North Carolina: 22.60 17) Colorado: 22.00 18) Ohio: 22.00 19) Massachusetts: 21.00 20) South Dakota: 21.00 21) Washington, D.C.: 20.00 22) Iowa: 20.00 23) Louisiana: 20.00 24) Minnesota: 20.00 25) North Dakota: 20.00 26) Tennessee: 20.00 27) Texas: 20.00 28) Vermont: 20.00 29) Illinois: 19.00 30) Maine: 19.00 31) Michigan: 19.00 32) New Mexico: 18.875 33) New Hampshire: 18.70 34) Arkansas: 18.60 35) Mississippi: 18.40 36) Alabama: 18.00 37) Arizona: 18.00 38) California: 18.00 39) Kansas: 18.00 40) Virginia: 17.50 41) Missouri: 17.00 42) Oklahoma: 17.00 43) Kentucky: 16.40 44) Hawaii: 16.00 45) South Carolina: 16.00 46) Indiana: 15.00 47) New Jersey: 14.50 48) Florida: 12.80 49) Wyoming: 9.00 50) Alaska: 8.00 51) Georgia: 7.50

Looks like we all should move to Georgia and create a VW state :-) Half of the VWs on the list already live there anyway at Dave Easterwood's house :-)
