Good suggestions. To this I would add:

6. A Bentley manual and a basic tool kit.

7. Some spare parts (this is a list in itself).

8. Package of 3 road flares.

9. A cell phone if you own one. If not, be sure to have some quarters and dimes (some pay phones now cost .35).

10. A journal and a pen so you can keep your own "captain's log".
