Subject: Front Spindle Nut Interchangeability Question?

Does anyone off hand know if the bus spindle nut will fit the vanagon? I have 4 bus knuckles at my parents, none with me here and need to repack the fronts on the '87 I just bought. Rather than pay the $4 each for new peen nuts (these are already overpeened) I'd like to use the old style split nut. But I need to order the peen nuts soon if they won't work. Unfortunately my '78 is at the folks as well.
