Frank-

The best idea for you (assuming you DON'T want your bikes up on the roof) is a hitch or hitch ball mount rack. Basically, you get a tow hitch for the rear. Then, a few companies (OSI is one) make bike/ski/snowboard racks, some even swivel out of the way when opening the hatch! I have not owned one of these (they're on the wish list...)
