Sounds interesting...a buddy of mine had a spare Weber 4bbl and Bosch 009 and stuck those in his Bug and it flies now! I'll bet you've got some power for a Wasserboxer.

Did any of you check out the Hot VWs from about a year ago that had the Karmann Ghia with the 1.9 Wasserboxer installed? It was carbed, and if memory serves, it was set up like a '73-'74 bus, or an old Type III- dual Solexes. I forget if the car had a balance pipe between the carbs.

That just sounds like the van needs a front-end alignment, nothing more. Out of balance tires wobble or shimmy at any speed. Buffeting at 65 but smoothing out when you back off the accelerator is a classic case of a bad alignment.

>(maybe an > intake manifold designed for carbs would help).

The Wasserboxer is essentially a Type I motor. If you're looking for an intake manifold, I would start by looking at one for a Bug. There will be much less modding to do to that than the airflow distributor that comes with the FI motor (yikes!) You might get by with just an adapter kit like the guy I know did, assuming the carb will clear the lid. It should- some English Vanagons had the predecessor to the Wboxer in the form of the Type I motor-carbed- with different tin and fan to fit the engine compartment.

Let me know how your resto goes when you return home to Canada!

Best of luck, Sam
