Woops! Forgive me for jumping in on this, but I know this State Park pretty well and I'd really urge you *not* to try sleeping there! The roads heading into the various parts of the formation known as the Sleeping Giant are no place to try stealth camping from, and the trails are a definite bad scene after dark. Private land abounds within and around the park, and it's not always easy to tell when you're trespassing. I've been running around that park on and off for nearly 35 years and it's pretty dear to the folks who love it. The whole reason it's still relatively un-screwed-up is that the park closes at sunset.

Please, contact the State Tourism office, or do a Yahoo search, or grab any road atlas, and look for places where your presence as a camper who's arrived in a Volkswagen will be welcomed - that's the way to be greeted by the smiles we can hope for when people encounter us! 8^)

CT's got some nice camping places - enjoy!

Thanks -

My guess is that CT state parks are closed for the season at this time. I would think you could stealth camp a night anyway without much hassle. If you're coming up I95 you can make a short detour to "SLeeping giant" state park. This one doesn't normally have organized camp sites, but it looks as though one could sleep in comfort off one of the less traveled roads.
