In rebuilding the back end of my van (after the fire) the PO put in Volvo shock absorbers (struts) on the rear door hatch ("the thing that hurts when the worn struts allow it to drop on your head")- they fit, and are a lot cheaper than VW ones. Sorry I don't know the Volvo part # or Volvo model station wagon from whence they came, but I do know that mine came from the junk yard.
