FYI:

I just replaced all 5 tires on my 81 Vanagon L with new Yokohama Y356 radials. Excellent tires!

Much to my surprise, the nasty old chin-mounted spare appeared to be an original OEM tire! Here's the sidewall info:

> Continental TS771 Reinforced Radial > DOT CUJ5 VK D 05 1 <--- manufactured 5th week of 1981? > 185 SR 14 > 94R > 5-ply > Max Load 1540 LB > Max Press 40 PSI

During my pre-sales tire research, I discovered that Continental still makes an 185SR14 radial for the Vanagon. Believe you can get them at TireRack, for about the same price as the Yokos. I opted for the Yokos based upon the positive feedback they received here on the List.
