Hello!

As an ex-VW dealer mechanic all I have to say is have that auto trans serviced at least every 24,000 miles or 2 years by a compentent VW tech. If you mainly drive in town or haul heavy loads or tackle the Rockies on a regular basis then I would seriously think about having it serviced at least once a year or 12-15,000 miles. I saw far too many automatics that the owner never or minimally serviced that would come in with problems and when we drained the ATF it looked like gear oil! In my book it is far cheaper over the long run to service an automatic more than the mfg. calls for than to ignore it until you have no choice but to rebuild it.
