Subject: brake master cylinder leak

found the location of my brake master cylinder leakage and wondering if anybody can shed some light as to what may need to be replaced. 1980 westy.

to recap: after a hard brake noticed brakes seemed "soft". checked fluid and it was very low and a puddle of fluid appeared on my mat by my feet.

took gauge cluster out, removed steering column cover. inspecting brake master cylinder. saw a small hole (looks like it belongs there) on the brake master cylinder, centered between the two bolts that hold it onto the big round black thing (vacuum boost?) when i pump the brake pedal hard you can see brake fluid moving in and out of this hole (doesn't squirt out)

Qe: is this hole a vent for one side of the booster diaphragm? What does fluid coming out of this hole mean? do i replace just the brake cylinder or the hole master cylinder/boost assembly? Brakes feel fine now and no further leakage, but just the same as it's been very nice here (philly area) i've been driving my conv.

thanks eric henning@fp.com 80 westy
