Theoretically VW has still a chance since they did quite a bit of lobbying with high ranking politicians, but it looks like BMW has wrapped it up.

VW is particularly interested in Bentley to have an application for its W12 engines. BMW is already providing engines for Rolls Royce and also works together with the aircraft engine manufacturer Rolls Royce.

As for the W12 engine: maybe someone is interested in a conversion project...?
