Subject: German VW Camper websites

Hello--

I just got the April issue of the German magazine "Gute Fahrt" (Grow up! It's the real name!) I don't speak German. But the pictures are in English.

The issue has a "CAMP SPECIAL" section. (That much German I do speak.) There are a number of VW based campers. The following are descriptions and the web sites. The sites are all in German. But they're interesting to check out if you're so inclined.

The campers seem to be based on a Euro Van type vehicle--maybe it's called a Multi Van in Germany?

One camper van has an hard-shell raised roof and is called the AMBIENTE. If you go to the web site its the white van with the black around the windows and the raised roofline. It has a bathroom and all as near as I can tell. This one looks like you could live in it after Armageddon, or use it to explore the surface of the moon. The site is http://www.dehler-mobile.de

Another has camper body with an overhang above the Euro Van front. (although this van front looks like it might be larger than the Euro Van. But it is a VW) It looks like the American RVs with the chevy or ford van cabs, only the RV body on this VW is smaller. This one also has a bathroom and all. The smallest model is called "Colorado". But there are others at the web site. The manufacturer is Karmann-Mobil. The web site is http://karmann-mobil.de

There is also a picture of what looks like one of those Thule enclosed ski rack on the roof of a VW "Multi Van". But it's not a rack. It pops up and has canvas sides and makes a rectangular bedroom up there for children when parked. There is a hole in the roof of the van like a sunroof that leads to the pod. Just push the kids up and through. Since I don't know German, and just about every third word is capitalized, it's hard to figure out the manufacturer. They have no web site. But a phone # 07121-44540

If you can find Gute Fahrt magazine in your area this is an interesting issue to look at. (And OK, it's kind of fun to show your friends and laugh while saying "Gute Fahrt! Gute Fahrt!" with a bad German accent.) There is even a full-sized big rectangular blue Winnebago-type RV with a VW emblem on the grill in this issue.
