Who knew? > And they were wrong! :-) Vanagons do not even have timing chains :-) The camshaft and crankshaft are linked by a direct gear drive, i.e. there is no need (or room) for a timing belt or chain. Just like a Beetle engine :-)

This is, of course, assuming you have a wasserboxer. If you have an inline 4 diesel engine, then who knows what you've got? :-)
