Don, you asked:

>> Can those of us who care redo the survey on the head gaskets again? Please answer the following questions: <<

A caveat: I'm not the original owner, having purchased an '89 Westy with 49,000 miles in 1/94. As of 4/98 it has 117,000 miles on it. I have a fairly complete set of maintenance records.

>>1. When have the heads/gaskets caused problems? << We have had no troubles so far. Records are pretty clear on this.

>>2. How is your vanagon driven? A) daily driver B) Weekends C) Seasonally stored <<

"B" is the closest answer I can give. It was used on a daily basis until last year at this time. Now, we've pretty much relegated our van's use to weekends and long trips. The exhaust system is original, except for the O2 sensor. Original clutch too. I believe it was previously used by a homemaker and not used for much short-haul commuting, and we've never done many short trips ourselves.

.>>3. Was VW coolant used? << Not exclusively.

Hope this helps, George Jannini
