Yes, you must be careful with those Blaupunkts! The two I've owned could be removed by inserting either a special tool (though four nails will suffice) into the holes on the sides. The tool (or nails) depress spring loaded clips on the side allowing the unit to slide out. I don't think it was like this on the Blaupunkt in my friends Mercedes, but the Blaupunkt on my Saab 9000 was like that and so was the one I just removed from my '84 Westy.
