Greetings Vanagonuts,

I've designed new & stronger Vanagon bumpers & I'm having a pair of made for my 87 Vanagon Syncro. I thought I'd see how many other are interested in them as well. The shop makes a lot of bumpers for Jeeps and the like but my design is their first Vanagon bumper.

The main portion of the bumpers are made from a 5" x 2" thick wall (3/16" or 1/4") tubing providind an overall height much like the original sheet steel bumper. The rear bumper is one straigh piece and has an integral 2" reciver hitch, safety chain attachments, & a pair of yank-strap shackles. The 2" reciver is recessed into the face of the bumper and is flush with the surface - no knee banging! The bumper includes new mounting rails that extend into the body about 3 times as far as the original and include places for 4 mounting bolts instead of the original 2. These rails are made of 2" x 1", 1/4" thick channel. The top is covered with diamond plate steel up to within about 1/2" of the body. Great for standing on. The ends have 1/4" steel panels that extend forward to cover the portions of the body where the old plastic end covers fastened. If you were rear ended with this baby, the van's body would give out before it would!

The front bumper is made of 3 smaller straight sections to conform to the body shape. Most other features are the same as the rear, except for a different mounting arrangement, and the 2" reciever type hitch is mounted above the main bumper section instead of through it. I haven't had the front built yet though.

I'll be showing off the rear bumper at the Syncro Safari next week. Soon after, I'll get a picture of it posted at my website to look at.

These cost about $300 for the rear and $350 for the front. Shipping extra.
