Hi Chris

Okay the grill. It is the one with the quad lights, and the actual grill that curves around the centre lights. Hard to describe, but I think I know which one you are after. There is a pic of an S.A bus at vanagon.com, with that grill.

Price (just the grill, not the lights etc, will you need all that?), R354.31 ($71.40). The VW part number is 22S853652A6A. One could probably get one from a wreckers yard even cheaper, but then I guess you'd have to worry about cracks and other damage.

As for automatics. None. They were available in the older 2.1i models, I know that because I drove one, but according to VW they are no longer offering an auto.

Even though they are using the 2.6 engines now. People still moan about wanting MORE power. These people mainly are using them as tow vehicles. A popular conversion here is to drop in a Ford 3.0ltr V6 to give that extra oomph. They have been doing that since the early 70's!.

As for all the other S.A VW products, well they are weird with that also. We still produce the Golf 1 alongside the golf 3, there is also still the old version Golf pick-up (known as a bakkie in S.A) called the "caddy". The new Polo is also out here, and until last year the new Jetta (3) was being produced alongside the original Jetta bodyshell, which was marketed as a more "cheapy" option, and sold as a "FOX".

Anyway, must go, my beetle has started being greedy with oil, so that has to be fixed up. Cheers Luke

P.S Is there any other way to receive mail from the list, on an optional basis, i.e downloadat my instruction. My mailbox gets filled with all my mail, including VW and personal, and I have to sift it out. Not bitching, just enquiring.
