Volks, Lurkers et. al., It is summer in March here in SE Texas, thanks to the "little boy" (I'm tired of "el nino"). I have to mow my grass!! So back to A/C probs again.... Volks, run the archives, you may use FR-12 and other concotions, (propane will work fine!), just remember, if you have to pay an auto A/C mechanic to service your system with FR-12 or other "substitutes" he very well might not work on your system for he will not have a recovery machine dedicated to recovering FR-12 and the other potions being concocted. HF-14a is my choice (and industry standard) when my 87GL needs converting, (not yet praise the Lord!), for apparently it works great in all of the older systems setup for R-12. My friend who runs an auto A/C shop says that they are lowering the volume of HF-134a, lower than a 1:1 ratio old to new originally proposed and this seems to cool as well as R-12. If HF-134a will cool well down here, it will work most anywhere and you can get your system easily serviced by any auto A/C shop. The pitch that your old lines will leak the smaller particulate sized HF-134a has proven totally false. A lot of this misinformation stems from the newness of having to do these retrofits. As I understand it, only the O-rings in the lines will have to be replaced, the system bled, recharged and probably a new filter-dryer installed and all will cool very well. We do like our A/C down here in Texas!! -- Shalom ><> Mark B. Magee 87GL 82 Diesel Westy 96 Suzuki 4WD Sport Kemah TX USA John 14:6
